I love this place! It is a quiet place & the service is very quick. The prices are also very low. I would recommend the fried ice cream.

this review is for aki's lunch delivery and i'm going to have to disagree with the majority of the reviewers on here. lunch is never just an ordinary affair when my coworkers & i order from aki. their two rolls combo lunch special will not disappoint, especially if you order the shrimp tempura and spicy tuna rolls. super fresh/tasty and amazingly fast delivery via seamless. should be everyone's go-to spot for japanese lunch for those around the herald square / garment district area.

my go to sushi spot while i'm at work. the sushi is really fresh and satisfying. i always get the avocado roll (filled with really nice creamy avocado), the salmon avocado roll (filled with really large fresh pieces of salmon) and the seaweed salad which is also very tasty and nice.

  • Jess L.

I didn't find my udon particularly interesting and seemed a bit pricey for the amount of food in the soup itself. (I got the tempura udon lunch special for $11.50). Not my favorite Japanese option, though perhaps I'd try a non-soup option next time. Delivery time was comparable to other restaurants in the area.

I have been going to Aki Sushi since I used to work in Herald Square. Now I go there when I have time and can walk down to it. The trick with Aki is to realize that it is a combination Japanese/ Chinese restaurant and to therefore order correctly from the menu. This last time, I got the 6 roll special for $25 - I got spicy tuna, spicy salmon, the lobster roll (which was really tasty), the eel roll and I think yellowtail. The sushi, since I stuck to what I know is OK, was fine. It's not a super nice place, the sushi menu must be carefully checked and it is good to ask the staff what is *fresh* that day, but it's not "crap" - but given all that, if you right in Herald Square by Macy's, there are only a few somewhat decent Japanese restaurants.

  • Keejoo L.

Ordered from seamless web. Came in about 25 min. Three roll combo with soup shrimp tempura, lobster salad, and salmon. Tastes pretty average, not the best that I have ever had but surly not the worst. Very close to where I live so its good for a quick meal. Failed to get a salad with my meal, but its not like I was going to eat it anyways. (sigh)

  • Elizabeth T.

Let's start off with the positives. The sushi was eatable (don't tell me it's not a word, Webster. I love it and will continue to use it no matter what you say) and I didn't get sick from it. However, there's more to a good restaurant than just not giving one food poisoning. I'd like the food to actually taste, well tasty. I don't think that's too much to ask. I went here once for lunch because it was cheap and I was craving sushi. I really need to start listening to Yelp more often. None of the reviews were splendid but I still went anyway. Not a good decision. Sure it's cheap but it tastes cheap! Now, I'm not looking for gourmet sushi at a place like this but the sushi was just not good. There are other sushi places around the area (also with lunch specials) that are much better.

The food is terrible. The staff is incompetent. Would never eat here again

I took a chance on Aki Sushi West a few nights ago and ordered 2 rolls, yaki soba, and seaweed salad. My conclusion? A little south of 'Average.' Food: - Seaweed salad - normal, no complaints here. - Tiger Roll - Salmon & cucumber, wrapped in seaweed, topped with avocado. As with lots of average sushi places, Aki is a big fan of pairing avocado with fish. I'm a little sick of such a combo, but I wanted the salmon. This roll wasn't bad - the fish was decently fresh and the pieces were large. - Yaki Soba - Why were my soba noodles green? Spinach fettuccine != Buckwheat soba! They tasted fine, but wasn't what I expected. - White Seaweed Special Roll - Made up of white fish, tuna, and salmon wrapped in white seaweed. The seaweed was fine, the rice was fine, but the fish had an unmistakably fishy, not-too-fresh taste. I was a tiny bit worried that I would get food poisoning. Luckily, my digestive system has been honed through years of living in Asia. Overall, not such an awesome place and I won't be coming again.

***2.5 stars*** I had delivery from here for lunch today. The lunch specials are priced right for the amount of food you get. I went with the Salmon Roll Sushi Boy - gets one star just for that name - a salmon roll and 4 piece salmon nigiri combo for $10. The salmon was good and fresh. The major disappointment here was the quality of the rice. The rice wasn't sticky or moist, it was a dryness reminiscent of day old supermarket sushi. Maybe to prepare for the lunch rush the rice is pre-formed in the morning and refrigerated? The miso soup here is really good. It's not salty and it's sweet, like it's been mixed with a light chicken broth. The pan fried pork gyoza was tasty but I doused each of them in the sweet soy sauce. Anything covered in sweet soy sauce is going to taste good.

I can only review Aki Sushi West based on my Seamlessweb order, and I thought it was quite good! The sushi was fresh and the delivery was very fast (15 minutes). I can't say anything about the in-house dining experience here, but I can say that the quality of food was fine and that I'll definitely order again. Maybe this is just one of those places where take out is far superior to the restaurant experience.

  • Lindsay K.

It took an HOUR AND A HALF to get my fucking fish. And you know I only ordered from this dump because I wanted it fast. Then I bit into the tuna cumber roll, and I sighed, coughed, and spit. Gross. Shrimp tempura roll gross. Lobster salad roll gross. Salad dressing on bad salad gross. I am calling Seamless Web and demanding my money back. Waiting an hour and a half for supposedly quick delivery is a crime. A foul-smell one at that. Again: I spit out the sushi and had lunch a la vending machine. You've been warned.

  • Brian L.

Blech!! Holy lord of Jesus. This place is disgusting. Their sushi is just disgusting. Disgusting, disgusting, disgusting. Indeed a disappointing night. Was craving sushi, decided to order online from Seamless Web, and got a 20% off so why not? I ordered a Salmon Roll, Scallop Roll, and a Shrimp Roll. The Salmon Roll was just gigantic which was sketchy in itself. Then I smelled it, it smelled fine. I took a bite of it and it was like chewing a ginormous warm booger. Good god was that disgusting. The Scallop Roll and Shrimp Roll had black spots under it so I didn't even bother to eat the rest of the whole order. There's 15 bucks that I'm never going to get back. Guys and Gals. Want Sushi? This shouldn't even have the honor of being the last resort if you want sushi. This place just disgraces the name of sushi.

  • Jeff C.

Sometimes it's better to just let your hankerings subside. This place is so fuckin' wack. Bland is right. It's almost like a bunch of liquid mush in an inside out roll that you can't tell apart the fish. The spicy tuna looks like it's radioactive..almost a flourescent melon color. Even with the 20% off seamlessweb.com discount I would steer clear of this place..you've been warned! Ordered: - Special Awards Combo C ($20.95) [Spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, spicy yellowtail roll, spicy white tuna roll and spicy mixed fish roll]

  • scott h.

Sushi was fantastic. Salmon Roll and Tuna Roll were 85% fish and only 15% rice. Fish was super fresh. Seaweed salad and edamame were average--tasty, but nothing special. Prices are very high.

    (4)
  • Rich W.

Flavor of my dishes was fine. No complaints to the quality. Better than average Miso soup. Nice big pieces of seaweed instead of usual tiny bits. Size of portions is smaller for the price than you'll find in other, similar shops. Four pieces of Sushi for $11 bucks on the lunch menu was a little high. My tuna roll was about the width of a highlight pen.

It is not the best sushi ever but it's really good and having come in 10-15 minutes (delivery) to my hotel at 11 pm was a big plus. No places offered free delivery with such an extensive menu and inexpensive options. I am big on sushi and can definitely say I am a connoisseur for all things Asian. Being so, it's tasty but not top notch. Again, this came quick, it was yummy, and the options were versatile. The delivery gentleman was sweet and made sure to show me my sauces, as requested, were in the bag. I would order again as I'm not completely familiar with the area and the quickness was appreciated.

Super good sushi right around the corner from my ofc - go here often! Good for lunch meetings if you work in midtown.

They're always late 30-60mins) late on my lunch or dinner orders-never order in advance and expect them to fill them in a timely manner. Meanwhile the staff just stands there and talks about you in mandarin. Their Japanese food is fine but Chinese food is gross.

Nice place. Great for lunch! Sushi was fresh and delicious. General Tso chicken was great as well! Restaurant is nice and clean; no lines; and AC is working perfect on this hot summer day... This made my lunch rotation!

dumb management charging for spicy mayo when I order 15 pieces to go like kinda need it to eat my food??? especially giving an everyday customer a hard time over something like that. I don't care about the dollar but it's like charging extra for broth in UR soup? like U pay for soup and at check out they're like broth is extra. like U need the broth for your soup. whatever moral of the story is im not going to support a business like that when there are 3 other sushi places withinh a block radius that most definitely won't pull something like that. especially for a regular customer. no body got time for that especially in New York BYE

For the prices listed on the menu, I wasn't expecting anything exceptional and wanted something quick to satisfy my craving for sushi. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and... the big improvement in service! The staff was very welcoming and friendly -- turns out they've had new management since May 2014. The presentation of our food was gorgeous. Even the wasabi came out in a fancy leaf shape! Posted a pic :) and the sashimi were generous thick slices and very fresh. I was very impressed with their tempura rolls (secret special -- not on the menu yet, but a friend recommended it and it did not disappoint). Loved them!! The flakes where light and crispy. Ask the manager to try! Great food, great deal :)

  • Elle E.

Not the best sushi I've had, but definitely a good spot for delivery. Food is always consistent, and delivery always arrives in under 30 min--I wouldn't want my raw fish to be under the sun for any longer than that.

  • Min P.

If I could give a negative start I would ... Just got off the phone with my bank, chase. This place stole my credit card information and tried buying a bunch of products from Asian beauty... How stupid can you be??? Do not go here. And the food wasn't even worth this drama. Special rolls taste like two week old California rolls. This place is terrible. Many better places in NYC. Do yourself the favor.

Like others have said, this place is not good. It's in a pretty crappy, industrial part of town. It's clean enough, but you'll also notice that there will be nobody inside. I couldn't help going here (was my boss's decision), but what I could control was getting as little raw fish as possible. I ordered the beef negimaki bento box. It was decent, and definitely a lot of food for $13. The rice was hard and tasted stale. Shumai were tiny but not bad. The salad wasn't terrible and the beef was a little bland but not horrible. Also, my stomach didn't feel quite right for the rest of the day, but no real food poisoning. Not returning.

I just ordered lunch from here, and "meh", is all I have to say. I ordered 3 rolls and they were way too big. A roll should be one mouthful, not more than that. The rice is also not great and is falling off the seaweed. There are better places in the neighborhood to order from. It was cheap and delivery was fast, but "meh" is all I can say about the quality of food.

  • Ashlee R.

I just love the pink lady roll! I realize not many people are a fan of this place but when you're not a sushi connoisseur & you simply like what you like you tend to be satisfied much more quickly. This place is a block away from my job so when my coworkers & I are craving sushi we put our order in on seamless & pick it up. Simple & quick which is ideal when you work in midtown & everyone is on their lunch break. I guess I'm a little biased for the mere fact that they have the only sushi I thoroughly enjoy.

This establishment is also known as Tokyo House (on the Phone) and Chop Stick House (for the Chinese food). I have been there 3 times so far. Just a few blocks from Macys. There are better places around, this is right across the street, good on a rainy day. Japanese: The Sushi needs a LOT of improvement. My purchase yesterday: 1 Avocado Roll, 1 Cucubmer Roll, 1 Inari, 1 Hot and Sour Soup and 2 Coke. About $15 (OUCH!) and I had to wait a bit over 20 minutes. First, you only get 4 1/2" thick slices of each roll (about $1.08 per slice). The inari was $2.25. Both rolls were hastily put together and fell apart when picked up with chop sticks. The avocado was turning brown. The cucumber was cut into matchsticks. Both fairly tasteless. There was PLENTY of ginger and wasabi. The wasabi was so fresh and hot my sinuses are still in orbit. The inari was a joke. I get better pieces at Whole Foods. The pouch was half filled with rice and folded over on itself. Almost the size of my thumb. Pitiful. I have made better Sushi rolls and Inari at home. No more sushi from this place. Chinese: The only thing I enjoyed from this order was the Hot and Sour Soup, and the Coke. Lots of mushrooms and veges, most places it's like hot cornstarch, 2 mushrooms and a slice of bamboo shoot. While it had no black fungus/woods ear mushrooms (a favorite) its good and spicy. Still contains cornstarch though. I make mine without, and will post my own recipe of Facebook tonight or tomorrow if anyone wishes to experiment. I have also had their pork fried rice, vegetable fried rice, sauteed mixed vegetables. All had lots of veges in them. The sauteed mixed was predominantly broccoli - glad I like it. Watching the meals come out for other customers the Chinese food looked way better than the sushi. On a previous visit there was an extremely loud argument between the delivery guy and a male cashier. I thought they were going to have a fight right over the counter. Screaming, hands waving every which way. They finally decided to take it outside. The whole place maybe seats 30. Yesterday busy, other 2 times not. Sushi counter seats 4 but 3 seats are usually used for packing up deliveries. The real tell will be when I order General Tso's chicken in a week or so. 3 stars only because of the Chinese Food. Update 10/24/13 Eaten here a few times now. Ordered the sauteed mixed veges a 2nd time, much better - greater variety of veges. Presently eating General Tso's Chicken. Have had worse. Nice and hot, slightly crispy. Pork fried rice is fine. They don't seem to use bean sprouts as much as other establishments. The eggroll is like a greasy sponge however. Bit one end and about a tablespoon of oil ran out the other. Looks 3-heated. Yech. What I have noticed in their food is how heavy handed the chef is with the 5-Spice Powder. Overwhelms, or nearly so, the aroma and taste of everything.Could be better. UPDATE 12/12/13 The ABSOLUTE soggiest, chewiest (not the pleasant kind) most oil soaked and overcooked (burned) eggrolls youll ever find. Got them on 3 separate occasions; each time was worse than the last. Like eating a sponge full of grease. This last eggroll has about a FULL tablespoon of oil in the wax bag. AVOID eggrolls at all costs. YECH!!! Lowering my rating.

Wow so many bad reviews lol. I've been ordering from here on and off for four years. I've mostly ordered the lunch special of chicken and broccoli or shrimp and broccoli and it has always been delicious. Never had any issues then again never really dine in and mostly picked up since I worked around the corner. Cheap and good amount of food.

Good sushi options are limited around this area and I decided to try this place for lunch due to a random sushi craving. Bad idea! I stupidly checked reviews of this place while I was waiting, and not before ordering, my food. After reading all of the bad reviews, I was actually kind of nervous to even eat my food.. I ordered the avocado salad and a Manhattan roll. The only decent part of this order was the avocado, and even that was already turning brown because I think it was pre-sliced. The salad came with a huge container of dressing which seemed like a complete waste for a small side salad. Their Manhattan roll had crab and avocado with spicy tuna and crunch on top. The spicy tuna was chopped into this mushy mess, which started to gross me out mid-meal...and then to top all of it off, I found a piece of plastic in one of my sushi pieces.. Never a good thing. There's probably nothing worse than thinking you're about to satisfy a craving and then being completely disappointed. Won't be back here.

Rude delivery person, demanding tip for replacement delivery on wrong order. We put "no fish or shell fish please, fish and shell allergy" on all of the items on the order, and it came with crab meat. We could have died. Restaurant sent out replacement and the delivery man ask a in a very unpleasant fashion we produce the food with wrong order.... What are they going to do, sell it to some one else? Than he complains I made him come out for the second time, he needs to be tipped. I had his tip in my pocket to give, but decided, he was just too unpleasant for me to give it. I called the restaurant the restaurant, and the lady on the phone says, it was the "boss" who asked for it. ... Real Japanese restaurant will never do that.

This has become our delivery chinese of late. Really fast, hot and food has been well above average. Get the ribs~very very saucy, sweet and thick. My fav is their cold sesame noodles. I love them but like them simple: just noodles and peanut sauce. No peppers, no chicken, just cold sesame noodles. The noodles smelled gorgeous and fresh when I opened the container. A real comfort food treat. I also like their simple steamed dishes with sauce on the side. Good variety of veggies, lean meats. We havent tried their sushi yet, but will probably actually GO to the resto for that! Be looking for us, Aki!

Don't expect 5-star quality sushi from a cheap sushi place. I got the 3 roll combo - avocado salmon, spicy tuna, spicy salmon. I didn't like that their spicy rolls had completely mashed up fish with a strange fried tempura taste mixed in. Don't do the spicy rolls. The avocado salmon was actually decent though, large pieces of fish that were pretty fresh. They forgot my salad in my order though and I didn't feel like calling back, boo.

Sushi wasn't that bad, but service was terrible. Had to always ask for something. Table was missing place setting and to request to have chopsticks for others.

  • Wuhoo S.

The service is not the best, the staff would rather socialize than serve; But they were nice enough... The food is okay too. It would have been more worth it if I had the lunch deal (but they don't offer that on weekends). Basically it is a fusion of Chinese dishes (Americanized, fast-food Chinese) and some sushi rolls. We got the scallion pancake (a traditional Chinese appetizer) but I have had better-- the pancake was too dense, it is supposed to be fluffier; as well as the fried wontons, which were overly fried and had a dry pork in the center. I got the salmon avocado sushi and the lobster salad sushi-- neither of which were fresh. The salmon had a fishy aftertaste. My boyfriend got the kung pow shrimp with pork fried rice-- just your typical takeout with big fat shrimp. I won't be coming back too soon.

Atmosphere: There is a row of tables extending into the right side of the restaurant when you walk in. It's a generally small place, with really dim lighting and somewhat dirty looking room, with a few decorations. It was quiet when we went in the evening, and there were one or two tables of Caucasians. Food: King Crab Roll (6) around $10? The sushi rolls I ordered consisted of crab meat, some various gingers, and avocado rolled up with rice and seaweed. I don't remember exactly what they tasted like, which pretty much tells you that they were average-tasting. The sushi was served with some orange ginger and wasabi on the side, which was nice. The plate was rectangular, small, and ceramic, and glazed to look like it was made of weaved bamboo. My parents ordered some Chinese food- a beef dish, a ribs dish, and a soup. This food that I stole off of their plates I actually enjoyed better- the meat was tender and juicy as it should be, and the soup was mildly savory. Service: There were a few waiters running around, and every so often a delivery guy wearing a bike helmet stopped by to pick up or set down boxes. Our waiter was a young man who spoke to us in Chinese and was casual yet professional when taking our orders. The food arrived after about 10 minutes after ordering. The waiter checked on us only about twice during our meal. Overall, the service was standard.

good came fast, but was cold/warm got them from delivery.com and they have a 10% tip button which i did the delivery guy comes and says i gave too little tip (if you don't want 10% tip, don't put your place on delivery.com that gives that option.) now they just lost a customer for life because of the delivery guy i don't need some bullsh!t comment after you hand me the food

This has become a frequently visited place for me since I work in the area and the options for good food are very limited. I'm not a big fan of restaurantes that combine two cuisines in the same location, but Aki Sushi could be an exception to it, sushi is good for most sushi lover I've brought in, and Chinese is good too. You can't go wrong with this place.

    (4)
  • Amanda A.

I'm really surprised after reading all of the negative reviews. I ate here today and it was very fresh and tasty. The shrimp tempura roll was one of the bests I've ever had, it was full and good. Usually it hardly has anything in it. The miso soup was great, most places suck with that! When the miso soup is good, I usually know that the rest will be good! The boston roll and spicy kani rolls were great. I really enjoyed their food and would go back again.

    (4)
  • Ben F.

Worst sushi I ever had. The rice was mushy and lacked taste. The fish wasn't fresh and it was tasteless as well. And it wasn't exactly the cheapest either. All around horrible. I had such a disappointing experience that I stopped eating and ordered from another sushi place to make up for it. I've had grocery store sushi taste better.

Holy crap this dump needs to have it's restaurant license pulled. I picked up the bento box for lunch. The guy behind the counter hassled me from the start about the order, so one "X" for them. I got back to the office and dug into the "miso" soup. Which leaned more to chicken broth with nary a piece of tofu, let alone kombu. The "salad" was pathetic with bottled carrot-ginger dressing. the bento came with shumai, california roll and your entree choice, which I had foolishly chosen eel teriyaki. The Shumai were gummy and wet, the rice on the california roll was also gummy but oddly firm in the middle and bland. The eel...cripes, where to begin. When I looked at it the first thing I saw was a lake of sauce that didn't resemble any form of lacquered on sauce that most places do. This was more ala Applebee's than a "Japanese" restaurant. The eel was this cow-tongue sized piece of fish that had no eel taste, was uncooked at one end and burned black at the other. The skin was as thick as a neoprene wetsuit with as much appeal. The first bite was spit into my napkin and the eel, along with most of the meal, made a scenic trip into my recycle bin. Thank god for the bottled pickled ginger otherwise this would have been one light lunch. All of this glory for $10! I'd get more satisfaction chewing on the ShamWow spokesman's tongue and having him beat me to a pulp.

I like Tuna as much as the next guy but I ordered the 'Tuna Don' plate and by the end of it lets just say I'm tired of Tuna for a while. What I did notice was there were a ton of little pieces...not a few large ones. Wonder if I got so many was b/c they were extra cuts? What really annoyed me (and actually took off a star) was they didn't include a little cup for the soy sauce (I ordered delivery). Without a pool of soy sauce for my little fish to dive into I find my tastebuds less than satisfied. They went the extra mile with the sauce and put it in a pan instead of a box and put spices on top of it. Good touch. Purely based sushi taste...Not great...not bad..Ehh..middle Bottom Line: Ehh...No surprises..fast delivery...Average to good quality

95% Sushi Jelly (what my fish turned into) in the middle with one layer of seaweed and rice on the outside. It was AWFUL, DISGUSTING, it smelled.... expect the worst from this place- there are too many alternative choices out there. YUCK!

2 things that made me feel as though i am having my dinner in a high school cafeteria. 1 the atmosphere. There was this guy, one of the employees or the boss was seating in the restaurant; talking and commenting at the top of his voice. This irritated me a lot. 2 the rice of the sushi. I ordered Chirashi, a dish that has raw fish over sushi rice. But sad to say the rice is not sushi rice. It was not even the right type of rice. It did not have the taste of the typical sushi rice. I was so so so disappointed. For the quality of food served, it is extremely overpriced.I am Chinese myself and I have to say that It was against my better judgement to have still gone into a sushi restaurant after realizing it was ran by Chinese. All in all, if u are looking just to fill your stomach this place is ok. Other than that, for everything else, it will be a dissapointment.

Pretty bad sushi, really. I give it 2 stars because it wasn't spoiled and was fresh - but just awful in the way it was put together. The tuna roll felt like it had tuna puree in it, rather than any pieces. The salmon roll was mush. Like they took whatever that was left over from the nigiri pieces and lumped them together for the roll. Eel roll and California roll had too much cucumber in it. No need to ever order from here again.

Entered what resembled a state of coma for 3 hours due to what I assume was MSG in food. Coworker complained of massive headache. Also a little weirded out that there are so many questionable 5 star reviews on this site by people who've only written one review. Deduct one star.

So I only ordered delivery from here cause seamlessweb was giving 20% off the order. Definitely wasn't the best, not reall even mediocre. The sashimi was soft, and definitely not the freshest. Tuna was almost pink, not a deep red, and the white fish that should have the orange dressing on it, totally missing the dressing. I won't be ordering from here again. And get this, I order the sashimi deluxe, and there's no container for me to put the wasabi in, so I had to put it on the lid of the box and made a mess with the soy sauce and everything. I got a box of rice with the meal, and it was the size you would get if you ordered chinese food! Just totally off, not a good experience.

The service is spotty, the place is crowded, and the food won't be inspiring any would be chefs, but I like it. Set in between the busy avenues of midtown, Aki Sushi West is a Chinese/Japanese (Horribly, I'm reminded of that old racist school rhyme) restaurant. I've only eaten here during the hurried lunch hour, but it satisfies because it fulfills two basic requirements I have. The food's good and the sushi's cheap and pretty fresh. I pretty much stay with the lunch time special of two rolls and a salad/miso soup for under $8. I'm sure there are 'better' places out there for me to discover, but the place is sort of like your current job : Sure you could do better, but your just too lazy and comfortable for any other action.

I only had delivery from Aki, so this review deals with the food and the delivery aspects ONLY. Which apparently, is a good thing, based on the reviews regarding the decor. My sushi arrived fast and was pretty fresh. It was CHEAP, especially considering how good it all tasted and how fresh it seemed. The lunch specials are a good pick, and if you have limited time to wolf your lunch down at your desk - do not fret - delivery is speedy, even when you aren't super close.

Can't say I loved the place food was ok, I had the chinese side for lunch so can't really speak for the rest of the menu, maybe I should have tried the sushi, but personally I was less than impressed. I also think their are allot better chinese restaurants in the area.

I just ordered some sushi from Aki. In my spicy salmon roll was a nice surprise: a sharp piece of plastic, about 1 cm long. Lucky for me, I bit it sideways, so it didnt end up gashing my mouth. When I called to complain (and to inform them that they may have a problem), they first told me it was part of the salmon's "shell" and then told me that they could only refund the price fo my salmon roll, not the entire meal, unless I returned the whole thing to the restaurant, and even then they wouldnt refund me the price of anything I ate already. Moral of the story: eat here at your own risk.

If I could give this place no stars, I would. We found multiple hairs in the salad. After calling the owners, they demanded the food be returned. We took a picture to send to the department of health. this place is disgusting!

I should have trusted my fellow Yelp! scribes...while I didn't vomit the sushi after consumption, I did gag and forced myself to finish everything out ot desperate hunger, monetary investment and a hint of curiosity -- hmmm can I digest this crap without the gag reflex kicking in during mid gulp? My sushi palate desires good sushi with some kung, pow, boom not this garbage :(

Just not good. When my friend told me to try this 2 star place I was like what?! There lunch special was cheap but aside the from spider roll less than satisfying. I may try again for their spider rolls but I'm not rushing back.

When one craves sushi, sometimes even the worst rating on a restaurant may not be enough to stay away. Such as the case with Aki Sushi West, where the cheap prices and fast delivery times were more of an allure than the lack of support from most patrons who have reviewed this place. With the help of SeamlessWeb, I had some of the restaurant's cheapest lunch combination (with a discount) to attempt to satiate the most desperate need for sushi ever. And what followed after my lunch roll combination (crunchy tuna, salmon avocado, eel cucumber rolls) and a bland miso soup, made me wish I had never ordered. It was so "raw" and bland in taste that I had daydreamt what it was like to hate sushi. When one is even exploring the possibility of discontinuing a favorite food, thats a clear sign it wasn't good. Then my stomach echoed my thoughts by forcing me into the bathroom multiple times over the next couple of hours.

Aly W. and I are constantly on the lookout for casual, yummy sushi in Midtown. I think we've found it here at Aki! The outside, and even the inside is unassuming. The decor is a little confused. It is trying to be Asian-inspired, yet there are fake grapes and vines (Italian?). It is definitely "generic." [1 star deduction for atmosphere.] The menu seems to offer Chinese as well as Japanese selections. I went straight for the sushi. I got one of the special combinations. There was a "spicy and crunchy" combination that included spicy crunchy yellowtail, tuna, and salmon. It was most delicious! But the real star of the show was the special roll Aly and I ordered as an appetizer. It was the "Red Rose" roll, and it featured... PINK SEAWEED. It was so awesome, I took a picture of it with my phone and made a blog about it. You can see it here: alliegee.livejournal.com… The service was "okay." There was a "timing" issue because Aly's meal arrived WAY before mine did. Even though we were the only people in the restaurant, the tea refills were sparse. [1 star deduction for service.] However, overall, the fish was fresh. The food was good. This will be a great "standby" to keep in mind for quick, casual, reasonably priced, fresh, and yummy Midtown sushi!
